Who we are
SoundCatcher is a small (very small!) business run by me, Justin Smith, out of my home in Austin Texas.
A lifelong professional trumpeter, I’ve often felt the pain of trying to practice in apartments and houses where neighbors and family members, loving and supportive though they may be, just sometimes didn’t want to hear my practice routine YET AGAIN. I think they probably hear Stamp, Clarke, Charlier, and Aebersold in their dreams.
When a good friend of mine (an absolutely monstrous and wonderful lead player in LA) was lamenting that he was unable to practice as much as he wished because of noise restrictions in his apartment, I decided it was finally time to try to solve this problem.
After months of testing and prototyping, with countless iterations and improvements, the SoundCatcher was finally born - achieving a massive reduction in perceived volume, without affecting the pitch or resistance of the horn. And the ability to play along with recordings was a wonderful bonus!
I truly hope you enjoy the SoundCatcher as much as I do, and that it lets you practice more, whenever you want to, and that it helps you on your musical journey, wherever that may take you.
